Let's Emphasize Time

Let’s emphasize time. Growing up, my Dad reminded us that everybody has the same 24 hours in the day; it’s what you do with it.

I’ve been getting up early (“at the crack of dawn” as my Mom says) since I was a kid. I am up with the birds, y’all, pretty often. I find that I’m most productive in the morning like around that 5 AM to 9 AM window. I probably get more work and tasks done than could be believed.

I had to be in place to teach at 8:30 AM on yesterday. So between waking up, spending time with God, preparing for my nephew who would come later that day, and all the moments prior to showing up to teach (like chatting it up with my sister during a twist-out takedown and printing off the lessons), I really maximized those hours. To me that’s stewardship and wisdom. After all of that and teaching, I was home by 11:30 AM to receive my nephew for the afternoon.

  • How can you plan ahead for things you know you need to get done today?

  • Are you prepared for being rerouted?

  • Arrive early, so that you’re on time and therefore avoid rushing.

  • Add buffer time gaps when planning and agreeing to do things.

  • Prioritizing involves choosing. Make a choice. Time spent here means time not spent there.

  • What’s the most needful thing for you to get done with the time you have right now?

  • You need to be real with yourself in order to budget time well. You know good and doggone well that you can’t take a shower, do your hair and put on makeup in 1 hour, yet you sleep in until 8:30 to be at a 9:00 job that is a 20-minute commute without traffic. That doesn’t make sense and now you’re stressed because you’re late.

  • Proper time management actually exhibits love. What?! “Love is patient…” Sometimes you have to wait. “Love is kind… it is not rude…” When you’re on time, you’re kind to the time you have and other’s. When you’re late or abuse the time, it’s quite rude when you think about it. Someone was expecting you to be in place. Someone planned around the expectation of what you said you'd do and when you said you’d be there. Timeliness actually affects other areas like being seen as dependable, reliable, and trustworthy.

  • With 24 hours in a day, how much does the LORD get?

I encourage you to surrender the day and yourself to the Lord. You’re on His agenda and time, plus He made the day anyway. Holy Spirit helps you to be a very strategic and good manager of time. Time is a valuable form of currency. Once you realize that, you won’t be so wasteful.

Much love,
